JAMES WALTER VAYRE
TROPHY
James Walter Vayre January 19, 1932 - April 26, 2002
Born to Walter and Della Vayre of Bay City, Michigan. Graduated from St. James High School in 1950. Married Mary Foley on April 19, 1952 and had ten children.
Entered the Army July 10, 1952 and served on active-duty during the Korean War. Received the Korean Service Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal and Bronze Star Medal. Honorably discharged May 7, 1954.
Graduated from Michigan State Univ. in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting.
Officiated Michigan college and high school basketball and football for thirty years.
Retired from General Motors Corp. in 1987 and moved to Tucson, AZ a year later.
Joined Rincon Optimist Club in 1988 where he remained an active member. Worked at Quail Creek Country Club since it's inception in 1989, to his retirement in March 2002. Jim was a avid golfer in high school and throughout his retirement years and accumulated six holes-in-one. He promoted junior golf and enjoyed mentoring and working with youth.
Jim was instrumental in obtaining golf clubs, balls and equipment right from the beginning of the Iron Eagles. Many of the clubs our kids are swinging, and balls they're hitting today came as the result of Jim's untiring efforts to collect and distribute donations from all over Southern Arizona.
